    Description

1886 Type 3 gold Dollar, authenticated / graded / encapsulated by NGC as Almost Uncirculated, AU-53.  This specimen of the gold dollar series has rich, orange-golden lustre, and little wear, making it a strong select AU.
This coin, of the third and final (Type 3) design, has some die clash marks on the reverse - silhouettes of one side stamped on the other - that you often see in gold dollars.  This has Liberty's necklines on the reverse, and clashing at the "6" that gives this year's issue the misidentification of an overdate - it's just clashing at the 6.
Being of the 1880s era for gold dollars, the wear may well have been from owners' handling after purchasing it from the int as a gift or souvenir, rather than circulation, which was not active for gold dollars by then.  Only 5,000 were minted, and about 800 survive, so these are scarce enough that coin shops are not likely to have them except for once in awhile.  Enjoy looking it over and considering to purchase!
